Prof. Dr. Martin Gartmeier
Martin Gartmeier studied educational science, psychology, sociology and intercultural competence in Munich, Regensburg and Turku (FIN). He completed his doctorate at the Institute of Education (Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Gruber and Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. Helmut Heid) at the University of Regensburg as part of the DFG project "Workplace Learning". The topic of his doctoral thesis was informal learning in the work context, especially learning from mistakes. When he changed to the TUM School of Education, he worked as coordinator of the BMBF project ProfKom and as conference manager of the EARLI 2013 conference at the Chair of Empirical Educational Research (Prof. Dr. Manfred Prenzel). After stays abroad in Bern (CH), Urbana-Champaign (USA) and Aarhus (DK), he completed his habilitation in educational science in 2017 (topic: Promotion of professional communicative competence in the domains of medicine and teaching). He has been working at the Chair of Medical Education since May 2016 and was appointed adjunct professor in May 2023.
Martin Gartmeier's research interests lie in the field of pedagogical professionalism as well as profession-related learning and development processes and their framework conditions, especially in the medical context:
- Communicative and counseling competence and competence development
- Effectiveness of digital learning environments to promote communicative and counseling competence
- Learning from mistakes and negative knowledge in work contexts
- Development of professional competence and expertise in the medical field
- Video-based teaching research in the medical field
