Description:
Inpatient ward rounds are an important part of everyday medical practice in hospitals. For several decades, medical research has been concerned with the question of quality characteristics of this form of interaction, which takes place (primarily) between doctors, nursing staff and patients. From a medical didactic perspective, particular attention is paid to the question of how the foundations for the development of corresponding communication skills can be set during training. With regard to this question, the research project aims to get to the bottom of the basics of competent ward round communication in the verbal and visual behavior of doctors. Our aim is to identify visual behavioral patterns and relate these to central tasks on a medical-professional, clinical and emotional level. As part of the study, both video and questionnaire data will be collected on internal medicine and surgical wards. The additional use of questionnaires makes it possible to include the perspectives of all those involved in the ward round into the study.
